Candle Care Tips

Our scented candles are lovingly hand poured by us in our Wiltshire studio using premium fragrance oils, pure cotton wicks and a vegan friendly rapeseed wax blend which is optimised for its scent throw and beautiful white texture.

Follow our tips to enjoy a purer scent experience and maintain the high quality of our candles from the first burn to the very last moment.

How To Burn Your Candle

  1. Light your candle in a well-ventilated room, away from drafts which can cause sooting (black marks on the vessel), or rapid, uneven burning.

  2. Take special care the very first time you burn your new Elm & Grey candle; make sure to obtain a 'full melt pool' by leaving it lit for long enough for the entire surface to melt. You should aim to have your candle lit for approximately 2-3 hours for our Luxe and Deluxe Candles.  Burning for less time can cause the candle to 'tunnel', which leaves a build-up of wax around the vessel's sides. Burning for longer periods (over four hours) can cause the wick to move, or slant.

  3. When you are ready to put your candle out, be sure to extinguish it with a snuffer.  Leave plenty of time for the smoke to clear before carefully covering it with our complimentary lid.  Always make sure you stop burning your candle when a minimum of 10mm of wax remains at the bottom, keeping an eye on a burning candle when the wax is low.

  4. Protect the surface on which the candle sits when lit - we provide complimentary lids for the candles to sit on - and allow ample room above and around a burning candle.  Allow your candle to cool before moving or touching

How Care For Your Wicks

  1. Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings and matches, as debris in the wax can act as a secondary wick, encouraging your candle to burn faster.

  2. After extinguishing the flame with a snuffer, centre and carefully straighten the wick.

  3. Once your candle has cooled, trim the wick ideally using a wick trimmer.  You should always leave approximately 6-8mm of wick and remove the excess soot head from the previous burn.  Keeping the wick at the correct length will help your candle to burn evenly, prevent it burning too fast and will increase its scent throw.

  4. Replace your candle lid as this will let the wax harden without any dust or debris falling into it.
