Candle Care Tips

Our artisan scented candles are lovingly hand-poured in small batches at our Wiltshire workshop, using premium fragrance oils, pure cotton wicks, and a vegan-friendly rapeseed wax blend.

This unique formula is optimised for exceptional scent throw and a clean, even burn, with a beautiful white wax finish.

Follow our candle care tips below to enjoy the full luxury experience — from the very first burn to the final flicker.

How To Burn Your Candle

Choose the right setting: Light your candle in a well-ventilated room, away from drafts. This prevents sooting (black marks on the vessel) and uneven burning.

The first burn matters: Take special care the very first time you light your Elm & Grey candle. Allow a full melt pool by leaving it lit long enough for the entire surface to liquify — usually 2–3 hours for our Luxe and Deluxe candles.

- Burning for less time can cause tunnelling (wax build-up on vessel sides).
- Burning for more than four hours risks the wick moving or slanting.

Extinguishing with care: Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Wait for smoke to clear before covering with our complimentary lid.

Safety first: Stop burning when approximately 10mm of wax remains at the bottom. Protect the surface beneath your candle (our lids double as bases) and ensure ample space above and around the flame. Always allow your candle to cool before moving it.

How Care For Your Wicks

Keep the wax pool clear: Remove any wick trimmings or matches. Debris in the wax can act as a secondary wick, causing the candle to burn too quickly.

After each burn: Use a snuffer to extinguish, then re-centre and straighten the wick while the wax is still warm.

Trim with precision: Once cooled, trim the wick to around 6–8mm using a wick trimmer. Remove any excess soot “mushroom” from the previous burn. Keeping the wick at the correct length ensures an even burn, prevents excess smoke, and enhances scent throw.

Replace the lid: After cooling, replace your candle’s lid to protect the wax from dust and debris while it hardens.
